Things to Make: Crochet Brimmed Shell Beanie - Free Pattern!
Previously this pattern was for sale in my shop...but in the spirit of Christmas giving I thought it would be fun to just post it here as a little freebie! (Plus it just looks so cute paired with my Crochet Holly Berry Pin! )
BRIMMED SHELL BEANIE PATTERN
Materials Needed:
Crochet hook size I (5.50 mm)
Medium weight yarn (I used Red Heart Super Saver, 7oz. - Buff Fleck)
Scissors
Yarn needle
Abbreviations:
ch = chain
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
sk = skip
st = stitch
sts = stitches
beg = beginning
sp = space
rnd = round
rep = repeat
This pattern is written in Standard American Terminology.
Special Stitch:
Shell = 2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc in same st.
Ch 4. Join with sl st to form a ring.
Row 1: Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc now and throughout). 11 dc in ring; join with sl st to top of beg ch 3. (12 dc)
Row 2: Ch 3, 1 dc in same st. * 2 dc next st. * Rep from * to * around; join with sl st to top of beg ch 3. (24 dc)
Row 3: Ch 3, 1 dc in same st, 1 dc in next st. * 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st.* Rep from * to * around; join with sl st to top of beg ch 3. (36 dc)
Row 4: Ch 3, 1 dc in same st. Ch 1. 2 dc in same st. (shell made) * Sk next 4 dc. Shell in next st.* Rep from * to * around; join with sl st to top of beg ch 3. (12 shells)
Row 5: Sl st into ch 1 sp of first shell of previous row. Ch 3, 1 dc in same st. Ch 1. 2 dc in same st. (shell made) * Sk next 4 dc. Shell in next st.* Rep from * to * around; join with sl st to top of beg ch 3. (12 shells)
Rows 6-10: Rep row 5.
Row 11: Ch 2. Hdc in same sp. Hdc in each dc around, skipping each ch1 sp; join with sl st to top of beg ch 2. (48 hdc)
Row 12-13: Ch 2. Hdc in each hdc around; join with sl st to top of beg ch 2. (You can finish off the hat here if you want to leave it without the brim.)
Brim Instructions:
(The brim begins where the hat ends off.)
Row 1: Ch 1, turn. Sl st in next 14 sts.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Sc in Back Loops Only of next 14 sl sts on previous row. Sl st in next 2 sts. Ch 1, turn.
Row 3: Sc in next 5 sc. 2 sc in next sc. Sc in next 7 sc. 2 sc in next sc. Sc in next 5 sc. Sl st in next 2 sts. Ch 1, turn.
Row 4: Sc in next 7 sc. 2 sc in next sc. Sc in next 9 sc. 2 sc in next sc. Sc in next 7 sc. Sl st in next 2 sts. Ch 1, turn.
Row 5: Sc in next 13 sc. 2 sc in next sc. Sc in next 3 sc. 2 sc in next sc. Sc in next 13 sc. Sl st in next st. Turn.
Row 6: Sc in 2nd st from hook. Sc in next 33 sc. Sl st in next 2 sts.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
